4 Different Structure Openings
The four different structure openings are;
1. Discrete Title Sequence
2. Traditional Title Sequence
3. Credits Over Blank Screen Title Sequence
4 Stylized Editing Title Sequence
1.Discrete title sequence opens with random images that are normally from parts in the film all put together, to make the audience question what the film is all about. This is used in the film New Moon, it opens with the title with a moon and then goes into a shot of the sky, it then tilts down and then tracks the character backwards to show her running. As the title is fading you hear a monologue from the main character which then goes into a very tense fast paced piece of music which really builds up tension and you are leading to what happens next.
2. Traditional title sequence opens with a high wide shot to show the scenery and give us a sense of location, this enables the audience to feel as if they are actually there in the film. This is used in the film Obsessed, it opens with wide shot of the location which is at low angle. The camera tracks what the audience would think are the main characters. Credits roll onto the screen in a soft font which is white. Also the music in the background was a happy, romantic song which makes the audience feel more upbeat which makes what happens in the movie even more chilling.
3. Credits over a blank screen opens with a plain coloured screen (which is normally black with white credits and depending on the movie sometimes a red title), this then fades into either to show the location, character. This is used in the film Limitless, which the white credits roll onto a black screen that comes towards the audience. There is also a thumping/banging sound when each credit comes onto the screen as the credits end their is a loud bang which brings us into the first scene. Which is a plain room with a stainless steel door that has someone banging it.
4. Stylized editing title sequence opens with either of the first two but has a lot of editing done to it and the audience have been shown it very obviously but very tight a sleek that it doesn't look messy. This is used in the film The Taking Of Pelham, it opens with a cross dissolve from the production ident into the location which helps the audience physically imagine where they are. There is a black graphic stripe which moves across the screen and time lapse is used for the fast and slow motion, the credits move throughout the opening to the side slowly and then shoot off the screen. The music is very loud, fast paced song which also builds tension to what will happen next. Out off all the openings this is my favourite because it keeps the audience interested and intrigued as we get shown who could be main characters and also what are they going to do that has to do with the trains. Also it is very eye catching as there are so many things to watch you aren't getting bored.
