Animation and family are more suited to children and families even though everyone can watch them, they are more appropriate for children. Like Shrek which involves all different fair tale characters that children can relate too. The posters colours are very bright and in this case green because Shrek is a green ogre.
Comedy can vary in age as some can have a lot of adult humour in them which then makes them inappropriate for children. An adult comedy is The Hangover which has a lot of strong language and nudity throughout the film. The poster has three men looking very worse for wear, there clothes are dirty and one guy has lost a tooth, one has got a baby and the other just looks pure confused. Then there is a comedy for everyone like Daddy Day Camp which has a lot of childish humour which keeps them occupied. The poster has the main character laying on the floor like he is dragged away by the kid campers.
Action is more for adults and teenagers (stereotypically more boys than girls). This has a lot more violence that is only appropriate for teens upwards. Like the Mission Impossible Franchise they have a lot of violence, strong language and heated romance. The posters are all similar as they only have Tom Cruise on all of them. The first 3 have just his face with different backgrounds that link to that movie, the first one has a globe in the background as he has to travel the world. In the second one there is a big explosion of fire in the background just like in the film. The third has what looks like an encryption on a device in the background and in the film there are encryptions that get put into people. The fourth one has Tom Cruise and 3 other people that look like his team and its very blurred by what looks like sand and in the film there is a sand storm.
Sci-fi is more for young adults and teenage boys and sometimes girls, as it can be less exciting than normal action films, I also think it depends on actors in the film as Star Trek because Chris Pine is the main character and a lot of people (girls) really like him. The poster has three people close up and then a spaceship below them showing the sci-fi element.
Adventure movies can be for the family but more for teenagers, like The Mummy they travel to Egypt and have to fight off a mummy and his dead army. The poster has the two main characters at the front wearing clothes from back in the day and has a gun while an army are coming up behind them. As its set in Egypt they have Egyptian encryptions in the background.
Drama is for adults and teenager like The Adjustment Bureau that has a lot more story telling and chemistry between characters. The poster has buildings which shadows on them and and two people are running away.
Rom-Com is more for teenage girl and women as it can be all lovey dovey but have a humour that you just want to sit with chocolates and ice-cream. Like Along Came Polly, which has Jennifer Anniston and Ben Stiller which add to the element of comedy. The poster has the couple walking together and they are also walking a dog together which makes them look even more in love and romantic.
Thriller is more adults and young adults like The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo which has the main elements of suspense which is crutial in a thriller. The poster is covered in black but has a girl on the front with a dragon tattoo across her face which has mystery and a sense of thrill behind it.
