Here is the conventional title sequence for the opening of a film;
-Production Company ident/logo
-Production Company (as part of sequence)
-Other Production Companies
-Distributors
-(Famous Actors)
-Film Title
-Actors/Cast
-Casting
-Costume
-Music Supervisor
-Music
-Edited By
-Production Designer
-Exec Producers
-Exec producers
-Director
Something that I have noticed while comparing different title sequences is that if there are famous actors in the film then their names go before the film title this is because of the hierarchy of who is important. Then the other actors and cast that are not well known come after. Also the films title normally echo's the film, for example the film memento, the font was Times New Roman and spaced out that fades in and out. This is because the main character has amnesia so memories come and go like the title but also that his memories are spaced out also like the film title. From seeing the title sequences you also notice that they use just regular fonts nothing too fancy because the way the edit them show more importance. In the title sequence of The Roommate it is also very conventional as it follows the same pattern however when you see the title it is shown in just Ariel but is above a taxi in the bright blue sky, as we understand what happens it makes it all more eery that its meant to be a normal college girl who ends up being sick and twisted. Its not as easy to comprehend what the title sequence is trying to echo, but they could be using the element of surprise to shock the audience.
