There are many different genres of film which appear to generally particular types of audience and is only avaliable to certain age certificates, for example:

Only few film genres are constantly targeted at a particular audience and are consistent in keeping the age certificate the same which is Family and Animation genres. Other film genres vary all the time depending on the film itself. A film poster is meant to allow the target audience to recognise that the film is aimed at them and lure them into watching the film in movie theatres.
Generically, comedy is the worlds most favourite and most successful genre as it is able to variate in different sub-genres appealing to a wide range of audiences.

This movie poster tells us the genre is animation as the the poster itself is an animation and that its target audience will be children of any gender and all ages. It seems like its age certificate would be a U.

This movie poster tells us that this film is a family genre and will appeal to adults and children, and its age certificate would be a PG.

This film poster tells us that this film is a horror and would appeal to young adults, adults and teenagers, and its age certificate would be a 15.

All the films shown are of the genre comedy, however each of them individually have different target audiences and different age certificates. This is because each vary in material used such as violence, strong language, scenes of a sexual nature and drug use which can define a films sub genre, and also be the distinction between age certificates 12A and a 15.
The film Due Date is a comedy drama, which has an age certificate of 15; therefore its target audience would be young adults, adults and teenagers.
The film Hall Pass is a comedy romance which has an age certificate of 15; therefore it would also appeal to women, young adult and adults.
The film Bridesmaids is also a comedy romance with an age certificate of 15; therefore would also appeal to the same audience as Hall Pass.
The film Big Mommas: Like Father Like son is a comedy and has an age certificate of PG; therefore its target audience would be for everyone, as long as there is parental guidance for those under the age of 12.
Finally, the film Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules is a family comedy with the age certificate of U; therefore its target audience is those of all ages, specifically families.

This film Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol is an action genre with sub genres thriller and adventure, with the age certificate 12A. This tells us that its target audience is both men and women, young adults and teenagers and also 12 year olds whom are accompanied by a parent.
